Speaker 2:
What’s up, everybody? Welcome to the Next Level Facebook Ads Podcast, episode 490. I’m Phil Graham.
Today, I’ve got a question for you. Are you paying too much attention to your Facebook and your Instagram ads? One of the easiest things to do with your ads is also one of the most dangerous, and that is to check them constantly.
Maybe you look at ads manager in the morning. Maybe you look at it in the afternoon as well. Maybe you look at it at night, maybe even every 15 minutes.
And a lot of people do this. This is very common, but I want to talk about why paying too much attention to your ads can sometimes make you a lot worse at actually managing them and could even make it so your are much worse. So it should be a great episode, whether you’re experienced with ads or brand new or somewhere in between.
Now, if you guys are looking for help with your ads, whether that’s one-on-one coaching and consulting or somebody to run your ads for you or somebody to help you figure out how to use AI effectively when it comes to ads for any one of those things, just go to my website, PhilGrahamdigital.com or DM me on Instagram at PhilGrahamdigital. We can set up a short Zoom call and I would love to connect with you. So let’s jump right in and talk about, are you paying too much attention to your ads?
Here’s why it’s not smart to pay too much attention because constantly checking your ads will create fake urgency in your mind. It’s natural and normal for ad performance to move and fluctuate from hour to hour and day to day and even week to week. So a bad morning or an afternoon or even a bad couple days doesn’t always mean the campaign is broken.
In fact, usually it doesn’t mean that at all if it’s just a short amount of time. So when you check it often and you see these fluctuations and sometimes they’re good and sometimes they’re bad, when you see negative or bad fluctuations, they might feel like a crisis that you have to fix. But you got to remember, it’s totally normal and you could mess things up if you so-called go in there and fix it.
Also, you got to realize daily numbers, even just looking at it once a day, Daily numbers can mess with your judgment. You know, you might get one lead that’s super expensive that day or a series of them, and there are a lot more than you’re used to paying. And you might think that’s horrible.
You might want to make a change because of that and do something drastic that maybe you shouldn’t do. However, the next day, it might be five times or 10 times better than normal. Even that day doesn’t mean that it’s amazing because again, it’s just one day in time.
So you need to look at things in larger amounts of time, larger windows of time, so you can make proper judgments as to what’s good, what’s not, how long to let things run, etc. If you’re spending, you know, $100,000 a day, that’s different. But for most of you guys who are not spending that kind of money, I would not be making changes day to day. And if you’re going to look at it, you got to be really disciplined.
Like I can look at things and not change them because I’ve done it so consistently. Like I know when it’s time to change an ad and I know when not to. So I don’t get tempted by looking.
But a lot of people, if you get tempted by looking and you start changing them and you change them too soon, you’re probably just going to be shooting yourself in the foot. So the bottom line is if you’re monitoring your ads a lot and you’re making changes a lot because of that, then you can actually be making it harder for your ads to properly learn and properly work for you, especially if you’re changing it way too soon and or way too often. You’ve got to let ads and campaigns develop some history and some data that you can count on before making changes based off of fear or panic or anything like that. So bottom line is have a plan.
Like for me, and it depends, it’s client to client because there’s a lot of variables based off of ad spend and many other things. But for a lot of you guys, a plan might be to let it run for two weeks and don’t make any judgments. You can look at it, but don’t change anything or make any judgments until you have two weeks worth of data.
Now, if you have a much larger budget, you could do it in a shorter period of time than two weeks. But for a lot of you guys, that’s probably going to be like a good ballpark timeframe to let things run before jumping in and making changes possibly too soon. So my friends, I hope that was helpful.
Episode 490 is in the books. And as always, just a reminder, it’s always important to point out that every business is unique. Results can vary.
There’s no guaranteed outcomes. So always keep that in mind. Next week, we’re going to look at whether your ads might be asking for too much of a commitment way too soon, because that’s something that can very often be a negative that hurts ad performance.
So that should be a great episode next week. Until then, I hope you guys have a great rest of the week. PhilGrahamdigital.com is the website, and I’ll talk to you on next week’s episode.
Peace out.
